We thought we were coming out of the pandemic. 3 different free vaccines are available to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. We thought we could put away our masks. Yeah...about that. Maybe we spoke too soon.
There has been over 620,000 deaths from this virus in the US. And with the Delta variant, cases are surging across the country, many in states with the lowest vaccination rates. It is now becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated. And in many cases, those who are vaccinated are the ones who have to deal with the fallout.
It certainly appears to be a political issue as to why people who are not getting vaccinated or why they still refuse to wear a mask. There is plenty of scientific evidence to prove that getting a vaccine (which 68% of the country has a least one shot as of this writing) will prevent catching Covid-19. Or if you do test positive even if fully vaccinated (very rare), you won't be hospitalized, and won't die. If you wear a mask, it will help prevent the spread. Who would have thought the idea of a simple face covering would become the political firestorm it has.
I believe in science, and firmly believe that vaccines work, and doctors and scientists should be heralded. Yes, they sometimes make mistakes. But I will listen to Dr. Fauci and the CDC much more that the Right Wing Media that seems to think that attacking them and spreading miss-information or sharing conspiracy theories with ZERO facts to back them up is the way to go.
I understand that for many, vaccine hesitancy is based on family history, or religious beliefs. But I bet most of the country has a vaccine running through their veins right now. When I was a kid, I had to get a vaccination for Polio, Measles, Mumps, Smallpox. We don't have them anymore. Because we have VACCINES! In this country we are free to make our own decisions. Those who have refused to get vaccinated, or think wearing a mask is an infringement on their rights...well I have the right not to be infected by those who refuse to wear a mask or get a vaccine.
We are in a divided country, and the divide is getting bigger and deeper. For myself, wearing a mask was not the hill I wanted to die on. I got my vaccine. I was also the only employee at my job who did not catch Covid-19. I wore my mask, and when I was eligible I got my Moderna shots. I have respect for the people around me and the rules to wherever I happen to be. I do not want to potentially get locked down again or have to wear a mask everywhere because the unvaccinated think they are making a political statement. Please get the shot! Because it will save your life, and if we do get locked down again, the ones who complained the most about it, are probably the ones who refused to get a shot or wear a mask in the first place. #GetVaccinted
