As a man who grew up in Illinois, and near the Chicago area, I can tell you that this is Chicago Bears country. Yes, the Cubs have been good, the Sox are up and coming, the Bulls dynasty in the 90's was awesome, and the Blackhawks had a great run too. Make no mistake, a rising tide floats all boats and when the Bears are good, Chicago can be the greatest sports town in the country. Unfortunately, currently this is not the case.
It appears that Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy will be back next year. This is not what Bears fans want to hear. In Pace's first year we had a Super Bowl caliber defense, and the offense was just good enough. Too bad Pace decided to jettison Robbie Gould in favor of Cody Parkey...and we know how that ended. Pace traded up to choose Mitch Trubisky instead of choosing Deshaun Watson. He gave up too much for a QB he could have gotten for nothing. He chose wrong, and once again if you have 2 QB's you have none. Folds isn't the answer, especially behind that God awful offensive line with has yet to be addressed. I have zero faith that Pace can draft a good QB, considering how badly he missed on Watson and Mahomes.
Nagy was supposed to be an offensive genius. Our offense for the last two years has been one of the worst. He got a QB he didn't want, who has shown us enough to know he is not the answer and I will be surprised if he is back next year. He will be a career back up in my opinion. And Nagy's has made it clear he does not trust him against good defenses. He was not willing to give up play calling for a long time and it hurt our team. He is wasting a good Bears defense which will age quickly if we can not give them some points.
This team will have some salary cap issues that may prevent them from really improving their team. They need to address the offensive line, and it sure seems that when it comes to drafting on offense, we seem to have more misses than hits. Especially where we need it most. QB! This is an average team which is no wear close to competing for a Super Bowl. Which is what they should be striving for. Not what we have now. A change in leadership is needed, and sadly I think we are nowhere close. We will have to suffer through another average season. I wish they would just blow it up, gather as many draft picks as they can, and get a GM and head coach who can build this team up again. What we have now, just isn't good enough. We deserve better. Much better.
